I remember growing up in Kaneohe, everyone had a clothes line in the backyard.  There are lots of advantages to hanging laundry:

It makes economic sense, it save energy by not using your electric gas dryer
Clothes smell better
Clothes last longer
The sun’s ultraviolet rays kills bacteria
