Be careful when looking for the best mortgage rate

Saw an interesting article that I thought buyers and homeowners looking to refi in Hawaii real estate may find interesting:

Potential homebuyers always ask why some brokers offer or advertise mortgage rates which are “much lower” than any of the banks or mortgage banks.  These rates are posted weekly to a number of sources including the local newspaper, Hawaii Central etc.

When you see those rates, call the broker and ask 2 simple questions:

  1. How long of a lock are you quoting on, and can you close in that time period if I wanted to lock today.
  2. What lender are you brokering the loan to?

The responses to those questions will be very revealing and you will be able to determine if the numbers are real or not.
